BRIDE TIPS: HOW TO ROCK YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Having your engagement photos taken is so exciting! This is the time before your wedding that you get to meet your photographer and take some awesome photos with your love. Whether you choose an adventurous setting, a busy city or your own home, I’ve got some tips for you that will help you get the most out of your engagement session!
BE KIND TO YOURSELF
Simply put, if you don’t like the way you look, you’re likely not going to like your engagement photos. Be kind to yourself and focus on the fact that you are getting married to the love of your life and these photos are meant to celebrate your love!
ONLY WEAR WHAT YOU FEEL GOOD IN
Don’t wear something just because it looks good - make sure it feels good too! If you show up to your session in an outfit that is uncomfortable, it’s going to show in your photos! Choose items that are flattering and make you feel amazing and you’ll be one step closer to awesome engagement photos!
GET YOUR MAKEUP DONE
Ladies, consider using this time to have your hair + makeup trial done! If you don’t want to have your makeup done, just be sure to wear mascara, fill in your eyebrows and use lip balm!
PREPARE YOUR FIANCE
Chances are, one of you is more excited about this experience than the other. If you’re the one who is excited, be sure to let your partner know that this is something that’s really important to you. The session will only be 1-2 hours long so let him/her know what you expect from them during that time. If you show up to your engagement shoot and one of you says, “ I don’t want to be here,” that’s going to make everything really awkward from the beginning. If there’s something one of you feels really anxious about, communicate that to your photographer so that they can help!
PREP YOUR SKIN
Healthy, hydrated skin looks best in photographs so spend the weeks leading up to your engagement session preparing your skin and giving it what it needs to be at it’s best! Ditch the sugars, drink plenty of water, and exfoliate! If you want my list of tips for how to prep your skin for your engagement session you can grab it at the end of this blog post!
Don’t be nervous - you’re going to do great! Almost everyone says, “I’m really awkward in photographs!” and gets scared that this experience won’t be any different. If you’ve chosen an experienced photographer** they should be able to guide you through the entire session and make it feel easy and fun! **this is a skill that takes time to learn and perfect so if you choose someone who is starting out they might not be as able to get you through your awkward moments.
