BEST OF OKC - DRINKS
Do you ever go somewhere on vacation and come home feeling a renewed sense of love for you own city? I generally love every city I travel to and some of them have me thinking about relocating but every time I come home and drive around I just think, “man, I really love my city, it’s so cool!” It is cool. It’s become cool. It’s becoming even more cool and I am so excited for all that’s coming! There are a lot of reasons why I love OKC (none of which are the weather), and I sincerely hope that if you don’t live here and you’re planning out your upcoming trips that you’ll add OKC to your list. I promise you won’t regret it! I’m going to be sharing a series of places I love in OKC but I thought I’d start with the most fun - places to get booze! *Mom don’t read this one.
Here’s the thing - drinking out is expensive, so, I’m going to start this list with my favorite happy hour deals because, well, who doesn’t love happy hour??
HAPPY HOUR SPOTS
They have hands down the BEST margarita in OKC. Maybe the best margarita I’ve ever had. It’s hard to say for sure though, I’ve had more than a few margaritas in more than a few cities… But if it’s not THE best I’ve ever had than it’s definitely a very very close second best. The best time to get them is every day between 3pm-6pm because HAPPY HOUR! You can also go anytime Tuesday for Taco Tuesday and score a pretty good deal. OH and they recently started offering “margarita grandes,” you know, so you can share with your friends! It’s 24 oz of pure margarita awesomeness! You can get the house, espolon blanco, casamigos blanco or patron silver! I always just go with a house margarita on the rocks with salt + lime. It’s so so good and only $7 when it’s not happy hour.
This one could be dangerous because it’s within walking distance and possibly the best happy hour around… Everyday from 3pm-6pm and 11pm-2am you can get 5 different drinks for just $5 and on Sunday happy hour is 3pm-close! They also have select appetizers half off during happy hour. My favorite is the Gimlet with no simple (they will look at you weird but if you like tart things you’ll like it). Matt favors the Old Fashioned. Scratch has become my go-to spot when I just want to get out of the house and enjoy a drink in a cute spot. It’s a bit pricey outside of happy hour but the food is actually really good so I don’t even mind it. They have a good brunch too and it’s not usually busy (probably because of the biscuit place next door). Oh and if you’re a local and you read Edible OKC you’ll recognize one of the bartenders from the ---- issue front cover! Isn’t that fun? I thought so too.

#3 R&J’S SUPPER CLUB
This one isn’t really a happy hour, it’s a happy day. They probably have the cheapest drinks in all of OKC so it’s happy hour pretty much all the time. They make strong drinks, good food and if you’re into throwback style, you’ll love R&J’s. For the optimal R&J’s experience you really need to sit on the patio. For the most native experience, sit on the patio on a day when it’s 20+ MPH winds… just trust me, you’ll be one of us if you have this experience. Honestly even if it’s not Monday, you should probably go to R&J’s. They have some of the best (*cheapest*) prices in the city and it’s just a cool place to hang out at. My drink of choice here is a Gin & Tonic and Matt likes the Mint Julep Oh and I just found out that they have a “boozy cereal bar” every Saturday from 11-5pm so, like, that’s something you might want to check out!
Ok onto the non-happy hour drink spots:
#4 THE JONES ASSEMBLY
Ah, Jones Assembly. So beautiful. So thoughtfully designed. So delicious. If you want to get your drinks in a place that will make your jaw drop with it’s beauty then look no further than The Jones Assembly. This place came from the long ago dream of two friends who wanted to one day create a great restaurant + concert venue. They did it. They really really did it. Whether you’re going for brunch, lunch, dinner, drinks, dessert or to see a show, you will not be disappointed. This is where we bring all of our out of town friends and family because it is truly stunning AND they make great drinks! I highly recommend going when the weather is nice enough to sit outside (either upstairs or downstairs). Bring as many friends as you want - the place is huge! My favorite drink downstairs is the Moscow Mule on Tap and upstairs in the T Room I like the Aviation.

#5 Bar Arbolada
Ok I wouldn’t say this about any other place but if you’re going to Bar Arbolada for the first time you have to go when it’s still light outside. It’s just not the same when it’s dark. Sure, it’s still cool, but when it’s light out it’s on another level. It sits on a corner and has two walls of solid window and the way the light works with the colors on the interior is just kinda magical. It’s a small place and can get crowded quickly but if you’re an early bird like me that shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t have a favorite drink here as their menu changes seasonally but I have yet to try something I didn’t like so you probably can’t go wrong! But don’t blame me if you do.
they don’t have a website that i could find
#6 Pony Boy
I love this place even more than I loved Savings and Loan (which is what it was before). I love that the menu doesn’t seem to change every day and it’s not nearly as overrun with frat guys. Pony Boy is the perfect place for a quiet (most of the time) spot to grab a drink and catch up with friends. The bartenders are usually very attentive, nice and quick which I really can’t say about a lot of other places.
There you have it! My top 6 favorite places to grab a boozy drink in OKC. If you’re visiting and you can only go to one or two, I would prioritize The Jones Assembly or R&J’s. If you choose The Jones Assembly be sure to check their instagram to make sure they are open that day - they are also a concert venue so on concert days they are closed to the public all day. If you’re a local and don’t see your favorite place to grab a drink listed leave it in the comments below so I can try it!
